SUMMERSIDE – A 33-year-old Summerside woman has been sentenced to four months in jail after stealing items from two city businesses in the same day.

Melanie Ann Russell must also serve 18 months of probation and pay $600 in victim surcharges.

Summerside police received a report around 1 p.m. Friday from a loss prevention officer at a Granville Street business regarding a shoplifting suspect that was in custody.

Police attended the business and arrested Russell. She was found with a number of items from that business and more from another.

Police located the second business and while they were there investigating, Russell, who had since been released from custody, showed up at the store again and was arrested again.

She was held in custody until a court appearance on Monday where she pleaded guilty to some of the charges against her and was sentenced.
