He’ll take “Great Opportunity” for $1,000, Alex.

Jonathan Greenan is going to be a contestant on legendary TV game show “Jeopardy!”

Greenan, who is from Summerside but lives in Charlottetown, got the call last week. He will be flying to Los Angeles in August to film at least one episode of the trivia show, hosted by fellow Canadian Alex Trebek.

“I’m really excited,” said Greenan.

“I’ve thought for a while that ‘Jeopardy!’ was something I’d maybe want on a bucket list, and it looks like I’m going to be able to check that one off.”

Greenan is a legal officer for the P.E.I. Human Rights Commission and has practiced law in various capacities since 2008. He is also a past president of the Greater Summerside Chamber of Commerce.

Participating in “Jeopardy!” has been a life-long ambition for him. He remembers being fascinated by the show, watching it at his grandparents’ home whenever he visited as a child. He applied to “Jeopardy!” online and was granted an audition in Toronto last November. That was actually his second attempt at getting on the show, as he had gone to his first audition in Boston about four years ago, but didn’t get a callback.

Greenan’s episode of the show is set to film in August but will not air on TV until sometime in the fall.

Once the episode, or episodes if Greenan wins his first contest, is filmed, he will have to stay tight-lipped about the outcome until it airs. The “Jeopardy!” showrunners take spoilers very seriously, so don’t expect any hints as to how it went.

In terms of preparing for the contest, Greenan said he plans to keep a stream of books in his hands until the show. There is no way to know before-hand what the trivia categories will be, but the show tends to go with some recurring themes, such as American history and geography.

“There’s a lot of work to do between now and then to put more knowledge into my head, and hopefully be as prepared as I can for whatever comes up. But I’m going down to enjoy the experience most of all.”
