SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — A house on Harvard Street is almost set to be moved on its property.
Summerside's planning board recommended a major variance – the adjustment of a particular property's zoning – for the two-unit dwelling during the city's committee meeting June 2, held via video conference.
Property owners Beverley and Kent Marchbank made the request because they'd prefer a larger front yard than back yard, a longer driveway and parking space further from Harvard Street, according to the board's recommendation.
If approved, the building would be moved so it's 8.8 metres away from Harvard Street and 3.4 meters away from the rear of its property.
Summerside council will make a final decision at its June meeting.
Neighbours to the property were invited to share their thoughts. Kenneth Hogg, who lives behind the property, wants the variance to be denied.
"I have lived at my home for 38 years and feel that we should have a respectful distance between dwellings," he wrote in a statement to the planning board.
