A P.E.I. man who was involved in a string of break-ins, including on Christmas Day, was sentenced Wednesday to four months in jail.

Brandon Walker, 18, appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Charlottetown after pleading guilty to two counts of break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence.

He also pleaded guilty to damaging property.

The court heard Walker and a co-accused, whose charges are still before the courts, were caught going through outbuildings on a property in Rice Point on Christmas Day.

The property owner stopped the two men who told him their names before he let them leave.

On Dec. 26, the RCMP responded to a call about a break-in at a cottage in Rice Point after someone drove into a gate and snapped the chain that held it closed.

The RCMP responded to another call in Rice Point a few days later after someone noticed damage to a cottage on a property where he was doing work.

That included damaged pictures and dishes and a can of paint thrown against a wall.

Walker admitted to police he was involved in all the break-ins.

Before sentencing Walker, Orr said breaking into a dwelling is one of the most serious offences a person can commit.

Along with the jail time, Walker will be on probation for two years and must pay a total of $850 in restitution.

Walker must write apology letters to his victims and pay a total of $500 in victim surcharges.

He will also be under a weapons prohibition and provide a DNA sample for the national databank.
