SUMMERSIDE – Two vehicles that were reported as stolen have been recovered, and a 19-year-old Summerside man is facing charges in relation to one of the incidents.

At around 12 p.m. Monday afternoon, police received a call about a suspicious vehicle in the Maple Avenue area. Police attended the scene and located the vehicle, but the driver had fled.

The car, a Ford Explorer, had been reported stolen from the Conway area.

RCMP are investigating the theft.

Policer were able to use video surveillance from the area to identify the driver, a 19-year-old Summerside man.

A RCMP K-9 team helped search for the suspect. He was located around 4 p.m. in the parking lot of a Water Street East gas station by members of the Prince District Joint Forces Drug Section.

At the time of his arrest he was found in possession of what is believed to be crystal methamphetamine.

Shortly thereafter, police received a call about another suspicious vehicle, this time in the Chelsey Court area.

The located vehicle matched the description of one that had been stolen from Victoria West.

The car, a Chevrolet Impala, did not have a license plate and appeared to have been recently painted.

A check of the vehicle identification number confirmed it was the stolen vehicle RCMP had been investigating into.

No one has been taken into custody for this second incident and the Chevrolet was seized.

The matter remains under investigation.
