A total of 136 occurrences were investigated by Prince District RCMP between August 20th and August 26th, 2018. The following is a list of some of the noteworthy incidents and investigations:
Speeding vehicles draw attention:
On Aug. 20, East Prince RCMP received a report of speeding vehicles on the Clermont Road in New Annan. The caller reported it was an on-going issue, in which vehicles regularly travel at fast rates. Police will be conducting extra traffic monitoring in this area throughout the coming weeks.
Dory stolen
On Aug. 21, at around 1:45 p.m., East Prince RCMP received a report of a missing dory from the Malpeque Bay. It is believed to have disappeared sometime between Aug. 17 and 21. The boat is described as a nine-foot white fiberglass dory, with two oars in it. The investigation is on-going.
Break-in in North Granville
On Aug. 23, at around 9:30 a.m., East Prince RCMP received a complaint of a break and enter to an unoccupied residence located on MacKay Lane in North Granville. The break-in is believed to have occurred sometime the night prior, between 5 p.m. on Aug. 22 and 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 23. The investigation is ongoing.
Nothing taken from community mailbox
On Aug. 23, at around 2:30 PM, East Prince RCMP received a report of damage to a community mailbox on Route 109 in South Freetown. The caller reported that a hole was drilled into the keyhole, however entry was not gained, and no mail was taken. The investigation is continuing.
Man arrested for impaired ATV operation
On Aug. 25, just before 11 a.m., Members of West Prince RCMP responded to a call reporting two intoxicated males on an ATV in Alberton. Police located the ATV a short period later and a 41-year-old male was arrested for impaired care and control of a motor vehicle. He provided breath samples over the legal limit and was issued a driving suspension. He is due to appear in court on a later date to answer to charges.
One injured in kayak, boat collision
On Aug. 25, at around 5:45 p.m., East Prince RCMP received a report of a collision involving a boat and a kayak on the Trout River in Granville. As a result of the collision, one person was injured and attended the Prince County Hospital for treatment. The investigation into the collision is continuing.
Vehicle damaged
On Aug. 26, at approximately 11 a.m., East Prince RCMP received a report of damage to a vehicle while it was parked at a residence in Traveller’s Rest. The owner reported that someone had spray painted the vehicle, broke both the rear window and a door handle, as well as keyed the paint. The investigation is continuing.
Recaps and reminders
During this past week, Prince District RCMP received 25 traffic-related complaints. These complaints mostly pertained to vehicles alleged to be driving erratically and speeding, as well as reports of traffic hazards on the roadway. RCMP will be continuing to conduct checkpoints throughout the remainder of August, in various communities across Prince District, targeting cell phone use, seat belts, distracted driving and impaired driving.
