Environment Canada says a weather system Friday could lead to flash-freeze warnings in P.E.I. - SaltWire Network

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for all of Prince Edward Island that could lead to flash-freeze warnings on Friday.

The weather agency says a trough of low pressure will sweep across southern New Brunswick on Friday morning, then track east of Cape Breton island Friday evening.

Rain ahead of this trough will change to snow in its wake and temperatures will plummet below the freezing mark.

Environment Canada says roads and walking surfaces may become slippery as any standing water freezes and snow accumulates.

Significant snowfall is not expected, but the system will be accompanied by gusty northwest winds.

Meteorologists will continue to monitor the situation and assess whether flash freeze warnings are required.
