There are several municipalities with applications to amalgamate before the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission, says Communities Minister Richard Brown.

Brown was responding to questions in the legislature today about amalgamation and said there are five communities involved in two separate applications that want to amalgamate.

In one case, Ellerslie-Bideford and Lady Slipper sent a letter to IRAC applying for amalgamation.

A different group that is seeking to amalgamate involves the municipalities of North Shore, Pleasant Grove and Grand Tracadie.

“Island communities want to work together and want to make their communities better and that’s something this government wants to see across Prince Edward Island because if Prince Edward Island is doing good Islanders are doing good,” Brown said.
