Sean Liu, owner of the Prince Alex Spa at Resort, formerly known as the Dynasty Spa, and his company, Shizhong Holdings Inc., are scheduled to finalize the deal Wednesday.

“It is not the easiest thing in the world, to finance a golf course,” said Nicolle Morrison, co-broker/owner of Century 21 Northumberland Realty and spokesperson for Liu.

The City of Summerside will be contributing to the deal in the form of a $900,000 loan guarantee.

Morrison said her client has big plans for the golf and country club. But, for the 2016 season, it will be business as usual, with no changes planned.

“It is exactly as it always was, open to the public. He is going to have a family day, open day, in March, to celebrate the purchase,” she said.

Morrison did not want to disclose the sale price.

“All the staff is coming back.”

The club employs about 40 full- and part-time staff. Its golf pro is Brad Cook.

“He is looking at a new golf clubhouse, possibly, and an indoor driving range type of thing,” Morrison said of Liu’s future plans for the course.

The property, at 1399 Linkletter Road, includes a clubhouse housing a restaurant, offices, retail space and an 18-hole course that spreads over 147 acres.

Liu’s Prince Alex Resort property, which encompasses 116 acres, and the golf and country club abut, one of the reasons, said Morrison, her client was interested in purchasing the second property from its current owners, Summerside-based construction company Curran and Briggs.

She confirmed that Liu’s plan is to amalgamate the two properties into one resort.

The Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission, responsible for the general administration of the Lands Protection Act, approved the purchase, said Morrison.

Liu, originally from China, now lives in Summerside.

“In 2005, when he came here, he fell in love with P.E.I.,” she said of why Liu has decided to invest his money into properties in Summerside. “The waterfront property (former Dynasty Spa) was available and he purchased it with visions in mind and he is fulfilling those visions and wants to retire here.”

The golf and country club is closed for the season, although, midday Tuesday, there were vehicles parked outside its clubhouse.

Work started at the site mid summer 2015 after construction was stalled for almost a year after Liu ordered changes to its design. Work is ongoing now.

The resort is situated at the end of MacKenzie Drive, along the city’s waterfront, and, will include two restaurants, a spa, souvenir store, and convention space.
