Hunting concerns
On Oct. 2 at about 10 a.m., East Prince RCMP got a complaint from a resident of North Bedeque, advising hunters were shooting at geese close to a residence. The matter was investigated and the hunters were outside the 260 metre limit and had all the required hunting documentation. As the season is upon us, hunters are reminded to be aware of their surroundings while in close proximity to residences.
Driver uninjured following rollover
On Oct. 3 at about 6 a.m., East Prince RCMP received a call of a single vehicle rollover in Norboro. The vehicle was on its roof and on fire. The 25 year-old male was the single occupant and was uninjured.
RCMP assist with suspected propane leak
On Oct. 3 at approximately 12:30 p.m., East Prince RCMP responded to a call of a possible propane leak at the South Shore Villa in Crapaud. RCMP assisted with traffic assistance while the residents of the villa were transported to a nearby school while tests were conducted, which concluded all clear.
Man seriously injured
On Oct. 3, East Prince RCMP received a call regarding an incident that had happened the night prior. The victim, a 26 year-old male from Summerside was found in the parking lot of the Miscouche Legion with serious head injuries. A 22 year-old male has been charged with aggravated assault and has been remanded in custody awaiting his court date. The victim is still in serious condition and the investigation is continuing.
Structure fire in Maximeville
On Oct. 4 at approximately 7 a.m., East Prince RCMP responded to a structure fire in Maximeville. Wellington Fire Department attended, concluding the cause of the fire is not suspicious in nature.
Sexual assault investigated
On Oct. 4 West Prince RCMP received a complaint of a sexual assault alleged to have happened a few days prior in St. Felix. A 22 year-old male was arrested and charged and is scheduled to appear in court in late November.
RCMP investigating stolen vehicle
On Oct. 5 at approximately 6:30 a.m., West Prince RCMP received a call of a stolen vehicle from a residence in O’Leary. The vehicle was later located in a parking lot and returned to owner. The investigation is continuing.
Checkpoint conducted
On Oct. 5 Members of the West Prince RCMP conducted a checkpoint in O'Leary to detect impaired drivers and for violations under the provincial Highway Traffic Act. Approximately 50 vehicles were checked, and no tickets or warnings were issued as a result. Checkpoints were also conducted in Borden-Carleton and Ellerslie this past weekend.
Impaired man taken into custody
On Oct. 7 at approximately 5:30 p.m., a complaint was received by police, reporting an intoxicated male was walking along a road in Lennox Island. Police patrolled to the area, located the individual and arrested him without incident. He was taken to Prince County Jail. The investigation is continuing.
Man charged following traffic stop
On Oct. 8 at about 2:30 a.m., police noted a vehicle crossing the center and fog lines several times, weaving back and forth, while on patrol on Route 2 in Elmsdale. A traffic stop was conducted and it was noted the male driver showed signs of impairment. A roadside screening test was administered, resulting in a fail. The driver was arrested and charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle. They are scheduled to appear in court in early December.
Checkpoints continuing
During this past week, Prince District RCMP received 31 traffic-related complaints. These complaints mostly pertained to vehicles alleged to be driving erratically, parking unsafely, speeding, and drivers using cell phones while behind the wheel. RCMP will be continuing to conduct checkpoints and patrols throughout the month of October in various communities across Prince District targeting cell phone use, seat belts, distracted driving and impaired driving.
