RCMP in the West Prince have arrested a man for allegedly driving more than 100 kilometres over the speed limit on Route 12, near West Devon.
RCMP said an officer on patrol in that area on Sunday, around 7:30 p.m., clocked a vehicle speeding west-bound at 197 km/h. The posted speed limit in that area is 90 km/h.
The officer tried to pull over the vehicle but it did not stop.
A 20-year-old man, suspected of being the driver, was arrested later that evening.
He was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and operation of a motor vehicle while being pursued by police.
This is the second time in about a month that West Prince RCMP have charged someone with driving nearly 100 km/h over the speed limit.
A 47-year-old man from St. Edward was charged in late March with driving 174 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone on Route 152. He was charged with dangerous driving, driving while prohibited and driving without insurance.
RCMP said they will continue their traffic enforcement efforts in the Prince County area this month, including conducting checkpoints looking for cellphone use, no seat belts and distracted and impaired driving.
