CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - Coming and going from the Charlottetown airport should be an easier task beginning May 1.
The airport is introducing a new taxi strategy, including a change that allows for a shared contract between cab companies. Yellow Cab has been the sole company with a contract to park outside of the arrivals gate before this change.
With growth in recent years, airport CEO Doug Newson says it could be a challenge for one taxi company to handle the demand.
"We're hoping this will be a win-win for everyone," said Newson.

Drivers at City Taxi are giving the new strategy a thumbs-up.
Company manager Joseph Corrigan says while the new strategy won’t guarantee everyone a cab, opening the contract is a step in the right direction.
"We're really hoping this will shorten up the waiting times," he said.
One more change involves fares for those taking a taxi. Beginning May 1, travellers will be subject to a $2 increase in flat-rate fares for cab rides from the airport.
Newson says the response surrounding the changes has been generally positive.
"The feedback from stakeholders and travellers has been good,” he said. “We're improving our services and are ready to take it to the next level."
