Nautican Research and Development set up its manufacturing facility in Slemon Park to make high-efficiency marine propulsion products. It announced Monday that the first items to roll off the assembly line, a set of rudders, is almost ready to be delivered to its customer in Seattle, Washington.

Two more shipments are also scheduled for completion at the facility in the next several months, including An Ocean Series, Class 200, 80” integrated propulsion unit (IPU) for a fishing vessel out of Alaska, that will ship in late June; followed by four 104” IPUs shipping out in late September.

“Prince Edward Island is my home province, and the ideal place for our operations given the location, skilled work force, and the enthusiastic support of the local government,” said Elizabeth Reynolds Boyd, president and owner of Nautican.

Nautican currently employs six people in Slemon Park and eventually plans to grow to 21 full-time positions.
