The regulations, which will require practically all Prince Edward Island fishing vessels to be equipped with an Emergency Position Indicating Radiobeacon (EPIRB), immersion suits and a life raft, were actually introduced last July and are scheduled to be enforced by July, 2017.
“We’re lobbying hard to try to get it changed or slowed down,” Ian MacPherson advised.
Fishermen suggested the time line is unreasonable, arguing it does not allow enough time for manufacturers to supply enough of the safety equipment to satisfy requirements.
