Local forecasters keeping an eye on hurricane

HALIFAX — The Canadian Hurricane Centre says it’s too early to tell how hurricane Gonzalo will affect the Atlantic provinces.

Forecasters in Halifax say the storm’s centre could track anywhere from just east of Cape Breton to well offshore over the Grand Banks.

They say that’s an area of uncertainty spanning about 600 kilometres.

Gonzalo is expected to approach the region Friday or Saturday.

The brawny hurricane is moving toward Bermuda with top sustained winds of 205 kilometres per hour and forcasters say it could strengthen.
