On July 29, the couple went to P.E.I. Segway Tours, for what she assumed would be a fun time and just a regular day.
Little did she know Gallant had gone to speak with the owner, Greg Weeks, beforehand to let him in on his plan.
“I thought it was a nice way to hide the idea. I met with Greg, and we figured we could hide the ring in the helmet, and when we were ready, I would get down and hand it to her.”
Leading up to that moment, Turner thought her boyfriend was acting differently, and Weeks said he would get out of the way as he handed Gallant the helmet.
A bag on top of the helmet concealed the ring and flowers inside, as she took it from him, who was kneeling before her.
“You could tell she was really excited, and she got a little choked up when she saw the ring,” said Gallant.
“It was unique and something different. We’re the first Segway proposal on P.E.I.,” she said.
Besides being a first, they were also the last to do something.
He bought the 14-karat white gold ring from Crockett’s Jewellers in Summerside before it closed at the beginning of 2014.
She said they’re the last ‘Crockett’s couple’ to get engaged after 124 years.
Turner and Gallant have been together for four years, and they’re going to enjoy this time before starting on the wedding planning.
Although, Gallant’s 10-year-old daughter has began planning the big day.
As to why they work well together, he thinks they seem to click, and she said they mesh well.
They met 11 years ago at the Showcase trade show in Summerside, and their paths continued to cross until the timing was right.
“I noticed him, and thought he was everything.”
She said the proposal represented them as a couple because they met downtown.
“And that’s our little love story,” she said.
“In a nutshell,” he added.
