The municipality of Linkletter is honouring the memory of an active member of their community, Greg Waite.

The road connecting Route 11 with Linkletter Beach Road was officially renamed Greg Waite Road during a ceremony Monday morning, and it is now part of the provincial road network.

“Renaming the road after Greg is a fitting memorial to someone who dedicated so much of his time to the community,” Transportation Minister Paula Biggar said. “He is truly a model of Islanders’ hardworking and community-minded spirit.”

Waite, who passed away in November 2015, was a Linkletter community council member for more than 25 years and was instrumental in the development of the Linkletter Community Centre.

“Greg would be humbled and smiling from ear to ear at the same time,” said his brother, Barry Waite, who lives in Summerside. “It is so nice to see the community doing this in his honour.”
