City woman now facing second assault charge
Awaiting trial for an assault charge from April of last year, Tonya Hann was arrested for another assault in Corner Brook Tuesday.Hann, 32, was charged with assault using a weapon (a knife), uttering threats to cause death to that same man and three counts of a breach of recognizance to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.She was placed on those court orders Sept. 15, Aug. 20, and July 17 of last year.The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary responded to a domestic disturbance in a residence at Larch Place. It was reported there were no injuries as a result of the incident. The accused was detained overnight for a court appearance Wednesday.
Hann was earlier charged with an assault of a female on April 26. She pleaded not guilty to the charge Feb. 17.In court Wednesday, the matter was set over until today at 11 a.m. Hann remains in custody and a bail hearing is not expected during today's appearance.
City youth pleads guilty to uttering threats
A 16-year-old male who allegedly entered Presentation Junior High with an aluminum bat in January will be back in youth court May 4.The young man appeared in youth court in Corner Brook before Judge Kymil Howe Wednesday afternoon.He pleaded guilty to uttering threats. A charge of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public was withdrawn.The matter was set over for facts and sentencing to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be compiled.I t is alleged that the Corner Brook High student entered Presentation Jan. 13 with the bat and left after staff at the school asked him.
The young man was arrested later that evening.A official with the Western School District confirmed at the time that the incident appeared to be linked to a report of a fight on the Valley Mall parking lot earlier that day. He said a number of students were suspended, although he could not confirm how many.
Youth issued warning for assault
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary in Corner Brook arrested a 16-year-old Corner Brook girl Tuesday morning.
She was issued a warning under the Youth Criminal Justice Act for assault in relation to what police called a domestic type of disturbance at a city residence.
That was one of 33 calls for service the RNC responded to in Corner Brook in the 24 hours ending at 5 a.m. Wednesday.
