Home heating oil price takes a jump

On what could be one of the coldest nights of the year, the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission has announced a hike in the price of home heating oil.

Furnace and stove oil prices increased 4.0 cents per litre effective 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24.

This is an unscheduled price adjustment. Fuel prices are usually only adjusted at the beginning and middle of each month.

Diesel prices will also take a jump, increasing 4.5 cents per litre.

There is a bit of good news.

Gas prices will remain unchanged at between 103.3 and 104.4 cents per litre.

This price hike comes as Prince Edward Island is in the middle of an extreme cold warning, with a wind chill of -35 C Tuesday morning.
