Judges will sift through 2,946 nominations from all across Canada and narrow them down to the Top 10 by March 4.

It doesn’t mean that 2,946 arenas are in the running for Hockeyville 2017, though. A quick check of the entries from Prince Edward Island shows 16 nominations but they represent only 10 arenas as the O’Leary Community Sports Centre has five nominations while Kensington Community Gardens and Tyne Valley Community Sports Centre each have two nominations in.

Also entered are the Eastlink and Simmons Arenas in Charlottetown, Cavendish Farms Wellness Centre in Montague, APM Centre in Cornwall, Eastern Kings Sportsplex in Souris, Three Rivers Sportsplex in Georgetown and Evangeline Rec Centre in Abram-Village.

Following the announcement of the Top 10 entries on March 4, there will be online voting on March 12 and 13 to narrow the list to two finalists. They will be announced on March 18, and the overall winner will be declared on April 1.

The grand prize winner will receive $100,000 for arena upgrades plus a chance to host an NHL pre-season game. The second place winner will also receive $100,000 for arena upgrades while the remaining eight entries that make the Top 10 will receive $25,000 for upgrades.
