“This is my first time here, it’s an awesome place. Driving by the water and seeing the ports, it’s really beautiful.”

Schneider, goaltender for the New Jersey Devils, played in a Hockeyville game when he was previously with the Vancouver Canucks.

“It’s fun to come to these places have the opportunities to see the excitement for the kids and the community.

“I can only imagine what it would have been like when I was a kid, so for those who don’t get to see the NHL up close and personal, and get high fives or autographs, it’s a really awesome experience.”

Schneider said it’s easy to forget how big a deal the NHL can be to those who don’t get to see it live or who have to travel distances to get the chance.

“It’s a pretty special experience. And it’s clear it means so much.”

Nico Hischier said it was cool to have a huge crowd at a morning skate.

“I’ve never had that before. It’s a pretty special first time. But it was very exciting to see the kids and the reactions of the crowds.

“[Hockeyville] is a really good thing. We’re happy to be here for the kids.”

Hischier says if you want to play in the NHL, keep working hard.

“Love the game and keep having fun. Don’t force anything, be patient and love working hard.”

John Hynes, the head coach of the Devils, said participating in Hockeyville brings back memories for everyone, not just the players.

“It’s really for all of us when you come to grassroots places. The game is fun and as part of the NHL it is our responsibility to grow the love of the game.”
