Luckily, Greenfield Community School has just the solution to avoid the winter blues.
Starting on Jan. 6, people 16 years and older can take a 10-week course for $15, plus the cost of necessary materials.
“There is a wide range of courses,” said Gallant. “There are different kinds of music classes like guitar, keyboard, and fiddle, and art and Island history.”
The 19 courses offered is a great way to get people out of the house, because it can be easy to just stay home this time of year, she said.
“It’s a great social thing for the winter. People have a lot of fun, and they learn something new.”
Classes run until March 9, and a banquet takes place the following day at the St. Eleanor’s Lions Club.
“We have a meal, and each music class puts on a performance for the rest of the students.”
Gallant said community schools on the Island, which operate from tip to tip, celebrated 50 years in 2015.
Greenfield Community School sees more than 200 students annually.
It’s something enjoyable for a wide range of ages, with people aged 20 up to those in their 90s learning new skills and making friends, she said.
Early registration will be at the St. Eleanor’s Community Centre on Jan. 2 from 1 until 3 p.m.
People can also register on Jan. 6 at the school, and classes run from 6:45 until 8:45 p.m.
