SUMMERSIDE - The 2014 the Grand Slam of Curling Players Championships will be returning to Summerside.
The world's 15 highest ranked men and 15 highest ranked women curlers will converge on Summerside's Credit Union Place for five days of jam-packed curling action, which will be broadcast live from coast-to-coast on Sportsnet.
The announcement was made Thursday, live on air from the 2013 Grand Slam of Curling Players Championships taking place in Toronto. This will be the second time in the event's history that it has been played in Summerside, which was also the host city in 2012.
"The 2012 Championships were a great all around experience for us," said Summerside Mayor Basil Stewart. "The event generated about $1.8 million dollars of economic activity for our city, which was a great boost for our business community. It is certainly an honour to bring back world class curling to Summerside again in 2014.
The mayor said the Grand Slam of Curling Players Championships is one of curling's most sought after events.
"Our great facility, volunteers, sponsors and fans were all vital to securing the event again for 2014."
More details on the 2014 Grand Slam will be released in the coming months.
Ticket information will be released this fall.
