It’s the second such fire in little over a week in the Evangeline area.
The call came in at 7:50 a.m. Friday, with the fire noticed by a passerby, said Wellington Fire Department’s communications officer Desmond Arsenault.
“Thanks to the quick response of the Wellington Fire Department they were able to really quickly extinguish the flames and contain the fire,” said Arsenault.
Although the exterior of the mini home appears to be unscathed, its interior is a write off, with extensive heat, smoke and water damage and uninhabitable.
“The homeowner was outside, so there were no injuries, no pets,” added Arsenault. “Right now the fire marshal is on their way and our chief is still there. They are waiting to determine the cause of the fire.”
Miscouche Fire Department provided mutual aid assistance, with both departments on scene for less than an hour.
The man living in the home is now looking for alternative accommodations, with the P.E.I. division of the Canadian Red Cross called in to provide assistance with temporary shelter, necessities such as clothing and toiletries, and food vouchers.
A fire last week in Urbainville gutted a home belonging to one of the members of the Wellington Fire Department, displacing he, his wife and their two daughters.
The family pet — a cat — died in the blaze. Its cause has not yet been determined.
