KENSINGTON – The former home of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 9 has a potential new use.
The former Legion property at 88 Victoria Street in Kensington has been for sale for a number of years and has been vacant since earlier this year. The Legion club has relocated to a relatively new facility on Garden Driver where it shares a space with the Kensington Lions Club.
However, a new investor listed in town documents as Kujtim Musliu is interested in using the property for a used car and truck dealership.
The Legion has asked the town to rezone the property from its current Public Service zone to a Commercial designation to allow the business.
A public meeting has been scheduled for Dec. 20 at 6 p.m. at town hall for residents to voice concerns or ask questions. Notification letters are supposed to be sent to property owners within a 500-foot radius.
Musliu has already committed to the town to erect fencing on the property to help mitigate the impact of the business on neighbouring residential properties.
The town has sought the advice of Dv8 Consulting regarding the application. It has recommended that the application be approved, given that the area is already peppered with commercial properties.
