A former Charlottetown Islanders hockey player has been fined $5,000 for impaired driving.

Adam Marsh pleaded guilty to the offence earlier this year in an Ontario courtroom.

Marsh, 20, was also handed a 12-month driving prohibition.

He was charged with impaired driving on P.E.I. on Nov. 13, but the charge was transferred to North York, Ont.

The Chicago native joined the York University Lions in Toronto after playing a year with the Charlottetown Islanders of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).

He left the Isles on Nov. 16 for what the team called personal reasons.

Islanders head coach and general manager Jim Hulton said in an interview with The Guardian in late December the team spoke with Marsh about different possibilities, including rejoining the team.

“We decided it was in the best interest of both parties for a clean break,’’ said Hulton.

“He agreed and, I think, in his mindset he wanted to move on with school. The more we talked he was kind of worried how things were being perceived not just here, but probably in our whole league.’’

The Islanders acquired Marsh in a January 2017 trade. He had 23 points in 27 regular season games.
