A 29-year-old Ellerslie woman has been charged with impaired driving, driving with a blood alcohol level above the legal limit and assaulting a police officer.

Members of the public reported a car with a possibly impaired driver in a Portage area ditch recently.

When officers arrived they arrested the driver of the vehicle.

During the arrest, the suspect allegedly assaulted one of the officers. She later provided breath samples that registered at more than twice the legal limit.

The accused will appear in Summerside provincial court in March.

The RCMP is also commending the members of the public who reported this incident.

If you see a driver who is possibly impaired, dial '911', and pass on the information, you do not have to provide your name. Reporting impaired drivers will help keep our highways safe.”
