A man who was caught driving the wrong way on a one-way street while drunk was fined $1,200 Thursday.

Osmaini Contreras Moreno, 42, appeared before Judge John Douglas in provincial court in Charlottetown where he pleaded guilty to failing the breathalyzer.

Crown attorney Lisa Goulden told the court that on April 16 at around 2 a.m. the police pulled Contreras Moreno over after seeing him driving the wrong way down a one-way street.

He spent the night in jail after providing breathalyzer samples that were more than twice the legal limit.

Contreras Moreno is banned from driving for one year and must pay a $400 victim surcharge.
