Mayor Basil Stewart and Council made the announcement late Thursday that Desrosiers will be providing the vision, direction and leadership to the department of Community Services. His other duties will include developing and fostering corporate sponsorship relationships as well as enhancing the city’s community development through attracting and staging major sporting and entertainment events.

His role as director will also involve fostering relationships with all levels of government, community stakeholders, and promoters as well as conducting longterm sport and recreation programming and infrastructure planning for the city.

"We are extremely pleased to have Mr. Desrosiers move into this important role in the city. He has been with the city for several years now and I know he will continue to lead and inspire all the team at Community Services in their task of providing top notch sport and recreation services to our fine city," said Summerside Mayor Basil Stewart.

Desrosiers will be responsible for overseeing the city’s sports, recreation and park facilities which include ice rinks, pools, a fitness centre, bowling lanes, community parks, baseball fields, beach volleyball courts, tennis courts, a skate board park, a dog park, soccer fields, trails and board walks as well as over 130 acres of green space.

“I know Mr. Desrosiers will bring a great deal of energy and enthusiasm to his new role as director of community services. He has done a great job for us in the past,” said Councillor Jim Steele, chair of community services for the city.

Desrosiers has worked for the city in the area of sport and recreation management for many years. He first joined the city staff in 2001 as a recreation counsellor working seasonally with the city for several years while pursuing his education. He has been with the city fulltime as a special events development officer since 2007.

“We are sure he will make many positive contributions in his new expanded role with the city,” said acting chief administrative officer, Gordon MacFarlane. “We all very much look forward to working with him as part of our senior management team. ”

Desrosiers has studied sports and leisure management at Holland College and recreation and sports studies at the University of New Brunswick.
