Culture Summerside, the arts, heritage and cultural division of the city, has embarked on a special anniversary project to mark this milestone.
The project will be spearheaded by the MacNaught History Centre and Archives, which has in its collection, microfilm of Summerside community newspapers. Culture Summerside is seeking approximately 50 volunteers to search the Summerside Journal microfilm for interesting and informative images.
Jean MacKay, archival/curatorial assistant,is encouraging community members to get involved.
“It would be a perfect way to become immersed in the culture of our community and help pass those cold days of winter,” MacKay said. “We are asking people to volunteer whatever amount of time fits with their schedule. We welcome participation from all ages and interests, and from beyond our own community.”
The images will be used to create a published commemorative booklet that will be available at no cost in October. The project is being made possible by a grant through the Community Anniversaries program through Canadian Heritage.
For more information on the project and to get involved call MacNaught History Centre and Archives at 902-432-1332 or visit the centre at 75 Spring Street.
