The meal, which will be served in the church’s Christian Education Center from 5 to 6:30 p.m., is being offered free of charge. There will even be entertainment.  The meal consists of chili, corn chowder, dessert, and tea, coffee or juice.

“It’s not your traditional Christmas dinner,” pastor Rev. Ewen Moase acknowledged, “but it’s a time of fellowship, a time of getting together, and reaching out to people who otherwise may have no one at Christmas.”

The meal selection is deliberate. Moase said the congregation has no idea how many will attend as this is the first time they’ve organized such a meal. It’s an easy meal to prepare, he explained and, if the turnout is not large enough to consume everything that it is prepared it will be easy to distribute what’s not served.

“It’s a very simple meal, entertainment and (a time to) enjoy each other’s company,” he explained.

“Come as you are,” he added.

While the meal is new, the congregation continues to provide a Christmas hamper program. Moase said they will be supplying at least 12 hampers and are still accepting names of individuals from the area who need support. Besides the families that will receive hampers, there are at least four families who will be receiving gift certificates, he said.  The congregation has been offering such support for years, usually supporting between 12 and 20 families per year.
