Community schools ready for winter session

SUMMERSIDE – The winter session for P.E.I. Community Schools is ready to enter a new year, with six evening course sites and four locations for daytime courses.

Each community school sets its own fees and age restrictions, which are listed, along with complete course schedules and any other suggestions, at the peicommunityschools.com website.

Two schools have arranged pre-registrations for 2015.

The St. Eleanor’s Community School will be holding early registration on Saturday, Jan. 3, between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at the St. Eleanors Community Centre.

Classes are offered on Wednesday evenings at Greenfield school, from 6:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m., starting Jan. 7. Registrations can also be made before classes begin.

New courses for 2015 include banjo, harmonica, quilting, and spirituality. The 10-week session concludes with a banquet on March 12 at St. Eleanors Lions Club.

In Kensington, early registration also takes place Saturday, Jan. 3, from 10 a.m. until noon at the Kensington Lions Club.

Classes begin at Kensington Intermediate Senior High school after final registration on Wednesday, Jan. 7, between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. Armchair Travel will be revisited this year, beginner and advanced photographers will both be accommodated, an introduction to technology will enhance user familiarity with their devices, and jive dancing is on the schedule.

 The remaining schools register on-site before classes begin.

Alberton Community School starts Monday, Jan. 5, at 6:30 p.m. at Alberton elementary school. Classes begin at 7 p.m.

New courses include line dancing, researching local families and history, dominoes, and card embroidery.

In O’Leary, the evening community school takes place at O’Leary Elementary school.  Registration is on Wednesday, Jan. 7, at 6 p.m., with classes following.

New courses include line dancing, guitar jam, eating “alive” (understanding holistic lifestyle), and plastic canvas cross-stitch.

Tyne Valley-Ellerslie Community School takes place at Ellerslie Elementary school, registering Wednesday, Jan. 7, at 7 p.m., with classes following.

New offerings introduce an option of turning trash into treasures, for those committed to recycling.

Evangeline Community School begins Thursday night, Jan. 8, at Evangeline school in Abram Village. Registration is at 6:30 p.m., with classes following.

Daytime courses are scheduled at two locations in O’Leary.  The Lady Slipper Villa has arranged for classes on Mondays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. beginning Jan. 5. The Alice Duncan Centre will hold classes on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. beginning Jan. 27.

In Alberton, Maplewood Manor classes will take place after registration at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 7.

Summerside daytime courses also take place on Wednesdays, starting at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 7. at Red Oak Court.  The class theme depends on the will of participants. Observers are welcome to attend and socialize.
