Summerside – Popularity of last year’s Summerside Intermediate Community School’s fall program has resulted in the addition of six new classes. SIS is the only fall community school offered in Prince County.
“We were doing it in the winter on Wednesday nights and it was just so busy. There was band, horse racing, bingo and just so much going on that we thought maybe our chances would be better off going in the fall,” said SIS co-chair Donna Matthew.
There are four other fall community schools in P.E.I. including Hunter River and Stratford.
Matthew added that fall is also a better time of year for people to get out on the roads, when there is no worry about winter storms.
“We started the fall program last year and we had a good turn out. Everyone seemed to enjoy it so we stuck with it,” she said.
Last year, SIS had about 50 participants enroll in 10 different courses. This year, there will be 16 courses offered.
New classes available include clogging, belly dancing, self-help and country jam. There are also several new instructors that have joined the program this year.
Matthew said the two most highly attended courses last year were digital photography and scrapbooking. Both of these classes will be offered again this fall.
“Community school is a fantastic place to learn something new, meet new people, have an evening out to socialize and have fun,” Matthew said.
Registration will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 6:15 p.m. Cost is $15. Registrants must be 12 years and older. Classes will be held on Tuesday nights.
