MONTAGUE — Donations are being accepted and a bank account established to help the children of a 38-year-old father gunned down in a double homicide last week.
Brendon McGuigan was shot to death, along with his 68-year-old father Brent, in a family home along the St. Mary’s Road last Wednesday night.
The police arrested and charged Alfred Guy Vuozzo, 46, with two counts of first degree murder the next morning.

The twisted and bizarre shooting appears to have stepped out of the pages of a murky history when the same families were involved in another tragedy 44 years ago.
The alleged shooter was a mere child when a car accident — involving the grandfather of Brendon and father of Brent — left his older sister dead in 1970.
The double homicide last week near Murray River has left the community speechless and a young family shattered.
Father Gerard Chaisson told media the parishes of St. Paul’s in Sturgeon and St. Mary’s in Montague has been struggling with the devastating news. The McGuigan familes attend St. Paul’s and the man accused of the murder is a parishioner at St. Mary’s — and live a short walk from the church.
Brendon is the father of three young children and his wife Kim is pregnant. She is also a teacher at the Southern Kings consolidated school where tragedy has struck three times in a row, including a young student who was one of the three victims that perished in a tragic fire last winter in Charlottetown.
Friends have established an account at the Montague Scotiabank in trust for the McGuigan children and a donation jar has been set up at the Murray River Esso station.
Donations were also accepted during the combined visiting hours for Brent and Brendon on Monday at the Ferguson Logan Funeral Home. The funerals for the father and son will be held Tuesday, Aug. 26 at 11 a.m. from St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sturgeon.
The P.E.I. Coroner’s office, assisted by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s office, confirmed Monday the two victims died by injuries sustained from gunshot wounds.
Police have seized firearms believed to have been used in the shooting. Vuozzo remains in custody with a court appearance on Aug. 28 in Georgetown.
