CHARLOTTETOWN - Hopes for the Cola Burger becoming the Island's most loved hamburger fizzled out on Wednesday.
The tasty burger, created by staff at Kensington's Island Stone Pub, was the lone Prince County entry in the online contest P.E.I. Burger Love.
The month-long promotion was a partnership between the P.E.I. Cattle Producers, Department of Agriculture, P.E.I. Flavours and Fresh Media, and was aimed at promoting Island beef.
Fourteen restaurants on the Island came up with innovative burgers and asked diners to chow down, then go online to vote for their favourite.
Contest organizers announced Wednesday in Charlottetown that the "Lord of Montague" from Sir Isaac's restaurant, and the "East-West Burger" from Charlottetown's Merchantman Pub both tied for the top spot.
P.E.I. Burger Love's Twitter feed said organizers took an average of the ratings for each burger to determine the winners, but a more detailed explanation of the results wasn't available.
The promotion resulted in 5,517 burgers - 2,731 pounds of beef - sold across the 14 locations.
