The Whistler, B.C., couple have been exploring P.E.I. since last week; camping, driving, hiking, and generally soaking in as much local flavour as possible while documenting their adventures online.

It’s all part of a day on the job.

“My job is to have fun,” said Walker, a freelance writer by trade.

Schell and Walker are one of two teams selected by camping equipment company Woods Canada, to travel around the country for its Outdoor Explorer Dream Job contest.

The company offered two people a $20,000 salary to travel Canada for five months, and is paying for all related costs, like camping gear, car rentals, hotels and provides additional money to cover personal items and food.

In the end, Woods Canada decided to offer the grand prize to two couples, one starting in B.C. and one starting on P.E.I.

For Schell and Walker, who are big outdoor types, it’s the trip of a lifetime.

“Every day for me there’s a moment of ‘this is so much fun,’” said Walker.

“It’s going to be so hard to go back to real life after this.”

Also part of the deal is that they have to use the Trans-Canada Trail as much as possible, and help promote active lifestyles.

That’s easy for them, said Schell, a firefighter and paramedic.

“Being active is really important in our lifestyles, so we’re just trying to encourage people to do the same,” he said.

While on P.E.I., they hiked several section of the Confederation Trail, which is part of the Trans-Canada Trail.

They also visited North Cape, dug their feet into the singing sands at Basin Head, explored Charlottetown, hiked Greenwich National Park and even got to go lobster fishing.

It’s going to be hard to leave the Island, said Schell, so it’s hard to believe their adventure is only just starting.

“The one thing that’s really stood out on this trip is how people have been so accommodating and welcoming to us,” he said.

Anyone who’d like to keep track of the couple’s adventures or check up on what they had to say about P.E.I. can follow them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram by searching for Woods Canada.
