SUMMERSIDE – A third candidate has entered the race for the Ward 2: St. Eleanor’s – Slemon Park seat in the upcoming November municipal election.

On Wednesday Garnet Gibson, a long-time Summerside resident, announced his bid for the seat.

Gibson has lived in the city for 28 years with his wife Debbie. They have two grown children and five grandkids.

Gibson worked in the financial services industry for 45 years before retiring. During this time, he worked as a lending officer, assistant bank manager, bank branch manager, financial services advisor, commercial lender and commercial administrator.

He has also taken on leadership roles in organizations like the St. Eleanors Lions Club.

“My belief is that all of these experiences have shaped me into a good candidate for council as they have taught me how to work well with others, both in small and large groups. The well-being of all citizens is in the forefront of my thinking and my actions,” he said.

Gibson says his main focal points include transparency, continued effort to attract businesses and residents to the city, holding the line on tax increases and affordable housing for low income earners with an emphasis on seniors and single parents.

“To serve as a councillor has been a long-time ambition of mine. Due to the demands of my work I felt that I would not be able to devote the necessary time required for this extremely important position.”

Also vying for the position are Katharina Mueller who and Justin Doiron who announced their candidacies on June 27.
