Al Douglas is still in the race for mayor in Charlottetown, despite rumours to the contrary.

Sources had told The Guardian that Douglas was planning on pulling out of the race and Douglas himself said Thursday morning that he’s heard the same story over the past week.

“I have heard the rumour but it is just that, a rumour,’’ Douglas said. “I’m not sure how or where it started.’’

Douglas, whose full-time job is as marketing events manager for the Murphy Hospitality Group, said his campaign team will be issuing a news release soon confirming that he is still in the race.

Municipal voters in Charlottetown head to the polls in the civic election in November.

Douglas said his father’s health is not good and thinks that’s where the rumour may have started.

“He’s been dealing with kidney disease and kidney failure for about five years now. He had a transplant about five years ago so it’s not like it was totally out of the blue. We saw it coming and it’s just one of those things. The timing is not great but it never is.’’
