Summerside City Council has approved the elimination of six parking spaces along Pope Road.
The closure comes as a result of a recommendation from the police services committee. It recommended the action to improve safety by freeing up sightlines for traffic exiting East Prince Funeral Home.
The parking spaces are most frequently used by employees of the adjacent Summerside Tax Centre. The parking situation at the centre has been a concern for council for many years as drivers are routinely forced to park on both sides of Pope Road.
Though council agreed to eliminate these six spaces, some councillors also called for a more comprehensive parking strategy to be developed for the area, including examining the option of banning parking on both sides of Pope Road.
