RCMP confirms Montague murders were shootings

The RCMP have confirmed the cause of death of a father and son who were murdered in a Montague home last week.

The P.E.I. Coroner’s Office, assisted by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s Office said Monday that 68-year-old Herbert Brent McGuigan and his son, 39-year-old Brendon Patrick McGuigan died of gunshot wounds.

Alfred Guy Vuozzo, 46, of Lower Montague, has been charged with first degree murder in their deaths. He is scheduled to make a court appearance on Aug. 28, at 9 a.m. in Georgetown courthouse.

The RCMP has recovered weapons they believe were used in the murders.

The P.E.I. RCMP Major Crime Unit is continuing their investigation.
