ALBERTON -- While other crewmembers of the HMCS Charlottetown were running the first leg of their Annual Run For Wishes on Tuesday Lieutenant Peter Blackman was carrying the Canadian Navy’s big boot through the streets of downtown Alberton and other West Prince communities.

Blackman said he would take his turn running with the team on Wednesday, but, for Tuesday, he was enjoying the opportunity to wear the Canadian Navy uniform while collecting Children’s Wish Foundation donations in the big boot.

Since 2003 successive crews of HMCS Charlottetown have raised more than $330,000 for the Children’s Wish Foundation through their annual Run for Wishes.

Lieut. Bryan Burt, who participated in Run for Wishes last year, is coordinator this year. He said 14 crewmembers are involved in the fundraising run with as many as eight members per day running in stages. They left North Cape Tuesday morning en route for Summerside. They make stops along the way including stops at five Sobeys stores where staff are holding special events in support of the HMCS Charlottetown’s cause.
