The crown has withdrawn several charges against a 38-year-old Farmington man laid following an incident last month in which a 17-year-old girl was found injured by the side of the road in the Cherry Valley area.

Crown Counsel Jeff MacDonald said Tuesday the Crown has withdrawn charges of assault, sexual assault and unlawful confinement against Gary Edward Brown.

But there are still charges outstanding against the accused.

MacDonald said Brown is now charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident and mischief.

The charges against Brown stem from an incident on July 16 in which RCMP allege a young woman exited a moving vehicle.

Brown was charged with forcible confinement, sexual assault, assault and uttering threats.

Those charges were withdrawn during a court appearance earlier this month.

MacDonald said subsequent interviews conducted by police revealed contradictory information.

Those contradictions meant there was no reasonable prospect of conviction on the original charges.

Brown returns to court on the new charges Aug. 25.
