TIGNISH -- The Community of Tignish is parting company with Up West Winterfest.

Winterfest was launched in 2013 with events in Tignish, Alberton, O’Leary and Mill River. It was repeated last winter and had additional financial support from the PEI2014 Fund.

Winterfest organizers have sought backing from West Prince municipalities for 2015, but Tignish Council decided Monday night to discontinue its association. Councillors felt their community wasn’t seeing the benefits of being part of a winter festival which had events spread throughout West Prince.

Instead, the municipality will go back to holding and planning its own community-based winter carnival, to be held later in the winter.
