SUMMERSIDE – Credit Union place was evacuated Thursday, after a small fire broke out near the multi-purpose facility’s swimming pool.

The fire ignited early in the afternoon in a small motor used to pump water into the pool at the facility that also houses two ice pads, a gym, restaurants, walking track, offices and multipurpose rooms.

The fire was extinguished quickly but produced some smoke. Summerside firefighters brought in fans to clear the smoke and the building has since reopened to the public.

The swimming pool, however, will remain closed for at least the rest of the day.

Some scheduled programming, such as swimming lessons, will proceed but without the use of the pool.

There were no injuries. The official cause of the fire remains under investigation.
