TYNE VALLEY – A lot has change in Tyne Valley in the past 50 years, but one thing that has not is the Miss Oyster Pearl pageant.

The Tyne Valley Oyster Festival is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and one of the few events that has stood the test of time at the community festival is the crowning of the pageant winner, Miss Oyster Pearl.

To celebrate this year, more than 40 of the past 49 winners of the pageant will arrive home to Tyne Valley to celebrate this milestone at the Tyne Valley Oyster Festival being held from Wednesday, July 30 to Sunday, Aug. 3.

On July 30 from 6:30 to 9 p.m., the former pageant winners will be treated to a wine and cheese event at Britannia Hall that will include chilled seafood and the new apple cider from Arlington Orchards.

Three former pageant winners will be chosen to a fashion makeover with a professional make-up artist. A fashion consultant will give a talk on accessorising one’s wardrobe and the successful projection of self-image. Décor will be provided by Shelley Campbell and Village Florists and Barb Burleigh will provide entertainment on the keyboard.

An anniversary float commemorating the 50 years of the Miss Oyster Pearl pageant will appear in the Oyster Festival parade that will wind its way through Tyne Valley village at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2.

Sunday, August 3 before the final crowning of the 2014 Miss Oyster Pearl at 4:30 p.m., all the returning pageant winners will appear on stage at the Community Sports Centre.
