SUMMERSIDE – Long-time Summerside Rotarian Paul Power was named the 2014 winner of the Paul Harris Fellow Award.
The award is the highest honour a rotary club can bestow on a person, either inside or outside the club and acknowledges service above self that an individual has offered to the community, the nation and the world.
Power has served on numerous committees with the Summerside Rotary Club.
He was club president in 2010 and has been recruited to chair the club’s fundraising committee.
He has successfully breathed new life into the club’s Mardi Gras fundraising curling tournament and is an active member in the rotary club’s golf tournament.
Power has worked with the youth of the community and is involved with the Boys and Girls Club of Summerside and its efforts to create an engagement centre.
In the wake of the earthquake in Haiti in 2010, Power rallied club members and the community to provide support for families in need with the shipment of more than 25 shelter boxes which provide emergency shelter and tools needed for survival.
“We do the things we do as Rotarians to better our community and our world, not to receive awards,” Power said. “But when you do get recognized by your peers it certainly is appreciated.”
