SUMMERSIDE — The City of Summerside has revamped its long-standing summer Friday night family movie at Green’s Shore.
The former Popcorn in the Park, which featured a free movie on the big screen along with popcorn on site at Green’s Shore each Friday evening in the summer, is now known as Green’s Shore Family Summer Fun.
Gone is the popcorn, said special events intern Jordan Ellis.
“This summer we have two different bouncy castles along with bubble soccer and the movie,” said Ellis. “Bubble soccer, there is going to be a charge for it. The other bouncy castles will be free.”
The fun starts at 6 p.m. on Fridays with the movie starting at dusk or around 9.
This Friday’s movie is “Surf’s Up”. The full list is on the Credit Union Place’s Facebook page.
This week only, a second movie — “Back to the Future” — is being offered as part of Lobster Festival. That movie will be shown Saturday night at dusk.
“It’s a benefit for families that may not be able to afford the price of a movie. If we can provide it and provide the service and get everyone down there and enjoy the area that’s great,” added Ellis. “We are really putting the emphasis on Green’s Shore this summer because it is a beautiful space and we want to maximize its value.”
He said the audio and video equipment for the movies has been upgraded. Ellis also suggested that those coming out to watch the movie bring a lawn chair or a blanket.
The city’s community services department also has various other activities planned throughout the summer in the city, many of which are taking place at Green’s Shore.
There are things like free bowling, outdoor fun such as beachcombing for treasures and nature hikes on offer.
