June Adams wakes up smiling everyday because she wakes up.

The 43-year-old Kensington resident has been battling Stage 4 Metastatic Colon cancer since last October.

“I was shocked when I found out,” said Adams. “There were no symptoms and there’s no history, I’m the only one in the family with cancer.”

A week after her original diagnosis, doctors said the cancer had spread to the aorta and liver, which makes surgery difficult.

Adams participated in the Kensington Relay for Life on Saturday.

“The survivors lap was hard, I cried,” she said. “Everyone there who has cancer is my inspiration because they’re still fighting.”
