SUMMERSIDE - In a crowd among hundreds at the Highland Gathering in Summerside, one group in particular is just having fun doing what they enjoy.

The Scottish Country Dancers from Charlottetown spent the weekend dancing in full costume in close to 30-degree weather, but they weren’t complaining.

“We’re doing what we love,” said Christine Scott, event co-ordinator for the Beaconsfield Assembly. “It’s hot, but we’re all having a great time here.”

Over a dozen dancers with the group spent Saturday and Sunday performing the triumph dance.

“In this dance the two men are triumphantly showing off the women,” she said. “They make her the center of attention.”

Although it may fly under the radar, Scott says this type of dance still has its place.

“Scottish Country Dancing is popular worldwide today,” she said. “There are dance clubs in Japan, Indian, Australia, and New Zealand, to name a few, that focus of Scottish dance.”
