Canada Day celebrations set for Summerside

SUMMERSIDE – The City of Summerside has a full day of Canada Day activities set for Tuesday.

It all begins at noon at Spinnaker’s Landing with the official Canada Day celebrations

The festivities will start off with the colour party parade of dignitaries followed by the raising of the flag and the singing of O Canada.

This year’s event will be highlighted by the dedication of Heather Moyse Drive in honour of Summerside’s two-time Olympic gold medalist.

The Citizen of the Year Award and the Canada Day Award will be presented and there will be birthday cake and entertainment.

Green’s Shore will be the site of family events. These include: GO P.E.I. Canada Day Walk from noon to 1 p.m.; Baywatch Bounce’s, face painting, bubbles, and sand Castle Creations from noon to 8 p.m.

There will be free kayak usage from 1 to 8 p.m., and potato sack races and two-legged races from 2 to 4 p.m.

A family scavenger hunt at Green’s Shore is set for 3 to 4:30 p.m. and there will be free hot dogs

Brett Gallant and Zac Doucette will provide entertainment from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. followed by the fireworks display at dusk.

Credit Union Place will offer free swimming, bowling and gym time from 8 a.m. to noon.
